All You Need is Love...

Valentine's Vignette

Ah, Valentine's day. Love is in the air...
As we await the warm spring weather we find ways to enjoy our time indoors. The color red is so inspiring! Although I do not do a lot of decorating for Valentine's I love to bring in bold pops of red to represent the joy of love. You can create a simple focal point of items to add excitement in a room. This is also known as a vignette. A vignette is created using a theme which in this case is Valentine's.
A vignette can be created using any flat surface in your home such as a coffee bar, an entry table, a mantle, a shelf, or the top of any piece of flat furniture.

A coffee bar is a great surface to utilize. You can include kitchen elements as well as fun decorations. Many kitchen items come in red and are fun to use in different ways.

A tiered tray can be used in almost any room.  You can add it in a corner or the middle of the island in the kitchen or even a table or hutch.

What Items to Use and Where to Purchase Them

Stores remove Christmas decorations almost before Christmas. The next holiday to follow is Valentine's! My favorite places to look for discounted items at a reasonable price are Hobby Lobby, Target dollar bins, and Amazon. I love to find unique items in unexpected places such as second hand stores, market places or antique stores.
Items such as mirrors or empty frames make a great base for the vignette. Also, chalkboards are fun to add holiday inspiration. Wreathes or candles will add dimension. Stacks of books can be added. You can use brightly colored red, white or pink dishes that are already in your kitchen.  Banners are great to add design. I also love to use greenery so there is some variance in color and not just all red or pink. Don't forget your cute quote pictures!

Creating Your Vignette

Creating a vignette should be fun and relaxing! You want to use a variety of items that include different heights and thicknesses. By layering items you create depth. Make sure to use patterns of color along with white.
Start with a base item that is tall such as a frame or flowers and layer items.

Vignettes are a great way to showcase holiday decor and can be changed seasonally. Have fun and enjoy creating!
